CODEX BIBLE

Privacy Policy

Last updated October 16, 2026

Codex Bible is a Bible reading app published by Jonathan Crespo. This policy explains what data the app handles and what it does not. We designed the app to collect as little as possible.

Accounts, advertising, and tracking

Codex Bible is free and does not require an account. The app does not include advertising, cross-app tracking, or an analytics SDK.

Information on your device

Reading position, preferences, and bookmarks are stored on your device. These are not uploaded to a Codex account or synchronized by us. Your device's backup settings may include app data. Older versions may have stored annotations locally; the current app no longer reads or edits those records.

Network requests and support

Bible reading works offline while its saved text is current. Scripture refreshes connect to our hosting service. Bundled explanations work offline. The optional widget requests a daily reflection from our hosting service. Opening our website or legal pages also sends a network request. Hosting providers receive technical request information, such as an IP address and request time, to deliver and protect these services. This policy does not promise that hosting providers retain no logs.

If you email support, we receive your email address and anything you choose to include. Avoid sending sensitive information that is not needed to explain the issue. You can contact us about deletion of support correspondence, subject to applicable retention obligations.

Sharing

Verse cards are created on your device. When you choose to share one, the selected app or service receives the content under its own privacy policy. Codex does not upload your card to a developer-operated sharing service.

Bible text

Bible text for NLT and NTV is licensed through API.Bible and initially bundled into the app at build time. Recent versions also periodically download updated text through our hosting service, which retrieves it from API.Bible. The saved text is available offline for up to 30 days after retrieval. Refresh requests identify the translation and books being downloaded; they do not send your bookmarks, reading history, or a Codex account identifier. Your phone does not receive our API key.

AI verse explanations

Verse explanations and daily takeaways were generated once, ahead of release, using Anthropic’s Claude API and bundled into the app as static content. When you tap a verse, your device reads from a local file. The app does not call Claude or any AI service at runtime. No prompts are sent on your behalf.

Children

The app is not designed to collect personal information from children. Scripture includes mature themes; consult the App Store age rating and use parental judgment. Contact us if a child has sent personal information through support and you would like it removed.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the “last updated” date above and, for material changes, post a notice in the app.
